The golden age of MUGEN has passed. It was a revolution back then, where any user with minimal knowledge could create a game, characters, and stages on this fantastic fighting engine. Hyper Dragon Ball Z is one of them, and here we tell you everything about its new version.
Many fans have seen countless Dragon Ball games over nearly 30 years. For 2D battles, we had versions on SEGA, Super Nintendo (probably the best), PlayStation 1, 2, and 3. The truth is that after several years this MUGEN appeared with few characters, but what it innovated most was its fighting system, the beauty of each sprite, the moves very faithful to the saga, and many details like character introductions and their special attacks.
Besides the latest version of this excellent fighting game, we can see a trailer in which the developers announce the future arrival of a pack of new characters, including Android 18, Super Buu, Gotenks, Krillin, and Tienshinhan. In addition, new stages where we can see characters like Bills, the God of Destruction.
This project is carried out by the group Team Z2, led by Ronnie Dieleman, an animator, especially of pixel art, better known as Balthazar. Hyper Dragon Ball Z has clear influences from the last title based on the anime by Akira Toriyama on Super Nintendo, Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension.
It is still in full development, but it is incredible to see the possibilities that the MUGEN system has, which despite being outdated in terms of resolutions and technological eras, demonstrates the quality it can achieve thanks to titles like this.
