iOS 27.2 gives Apple Music a monochrome app icon: in the light appearance, it has a white background and black music note; in dark appearance, those colors reverse. Apple released the update on October 26, 2026, according to TechRepublic. 9to5Mac also reported several changes to the Music interface.
NeoTeo covered the earlier iOS 27.2 developer beta, which previewed Siri and Health changes, before the public release.
Other Apple Music design changes
In iOS 27.2, the selected-tab indicator in Apple Music is blue, and Music widgets have black backgrounds. The previous designs used red treatments for both.
| Apple Music element | Previous design | Design in iOS 27.2 |
| App icon | Red treatment | White background and black music note in the light appearance; reversed colors in dark appearance |
| Selected-tab indicator | Red | Blue |
| Widgets | Red treatment | Black backgrounds |
9to5Mac also reported monochrome styling for Library sections such as Playlists, Albums, Artists, and Songs, along with bolder, lowercase logos for curated playlists and stations.
The brand film and the installed icon
Apple Music’s “Made by Sound” is a brand-identity film. The app icon reported for iOS 27.2 is a separate, monochrome design. Some users expected the campaign’s liquid-looking artwork to appear on the Home Screen, and reactions to losing the red design in user discussions were mixed.
Add a custom Home Screen launcher with Shortcuts
Apple Support explains how to use a photo as the icon for a Shortcuts launcher on the Home Screen. Set the shortcut to open Music and it creates an additional launcher with custom artwork; it does not replace the icon attached to the Music app. Apple’s guide to customizing Shortcuts icons.
