Apple has set the iPhone Duo release date in the United States for October 23, 2026. Preorders begin Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. Pacific time in more than 70 countries and regions, including the U.S. The 256GB model starts at $1,999.

Apple introduced iPhone Duo on September 9 as its first foldable iPhone. For shoppers planning a launch-day purchase, the key dates are straightforward: preorder access comes first, followed by store availability one week later.

What the reported shipment estimate means for the Duo

Jeff Pu reportedly lowered the 2026 iPhone Duo shipment estimate from 7 million to 6 million units, citing alleged hinge-production constraints. Apple has not published a production forecast or a configuration-by-configuration inventory chart.

The reported estimate is separate from Apple’s retail schedule. The dates above describe when customers can place a preorder and when the phone is scheduled to become available; they do not specify how many units Apple will allocate to each storage configuration.

The hardware arriving with iPhone Duo

The iPhone Duo uses a book-style foldable design with a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display and a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display. Apple says a nano-texture finish reduces glare, reflections and the visibility of the crease; the company does not describe the display as crease-free.

Authentication moves to Touch ID in the side button. The enclosure uses grade 5 titanium, while the hinge includes more than 100 components and is designed to support the center of the display when the phone is open.

Inside, the phone runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip and launches with iOS 27.1. Storage options are 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Split View supports two apps, two windows from the same app or saved app pairs, giving the larger inner display a practical job beyond simply showing a bigger image.

The rear camera system combines a 48MP Fusion Main camera with optical-quality 2x telephoto capability and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera. A Center Stage front camera and a hidden inner FaceTime camera handle front-facing calls and images.

Battery, charging and connectivity

Apple rates iPhone Duo for up to 31 hours of inner-display video playback, up to 44 hours using the outer display, or up to 24 hours of typical use with equal use of both displays. Those are separate usage figures, so the 24-hour typical-use claim is the relevant one for mixed daily use.

Wired fast charging can reach 50% in around 20 minutes under Apple’s stated test conditions. MagSafe or Qi2 wireless charging can reach 50% in around 30 minutes. The phone also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread and Apple’s C2 modem; the specification lists mmWave support for the United States.

The device has an IP68 rating under IEC 60529 and was tested to a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes. Apple says water and dust resistance can decrease with normal wear.

What buyers can plan before preorder day

The practical decision is to choose the storage capacity before October 16: Apple lists 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB versions, with the U.S. starting price applying to the 256GB model. Apple also says Apple Pencil with USB-C support is planned for later in 2026 and will work on either display.

The confirmed U.S. sequence is simple: preorders start October 16 at 5 a.m. PT, and availability begins October 23. The reported shipment estimate adds a supply concern around the launch, while the phone’s defining features are already clear: two displays, a titanium enclosure, Touch ID, A20 Pro and foldable-focused multitasking.
