For iPhone 18 Pro models, Apple says purchases in the U.S. or Puerto Rico are eSIM-only, while its Spain specifications list nano-SIM and eSIM. The comparison is specific to those markets and the Pro lineup.
| Market and model scope | SIM configuration |
| U.S. and Puerto Rico purchases of iPhone 18 Pro models | eSIM only; no physical SIM tray |
| Spain-listed iPhone 18 Pro models | nano-SIM and eSIM; dual-eSIM support |
The SIM difference between U.S. and Spain-listed models
An eSIM is a digital SIM built into the phone, rather than a removable card. Apple says U.S.-purchased iPhone 18 Pro models activate using eSIM only and have no physical SIM tray. For the Spain-listed models, Apple specifies support for nano-SIM and eSIM, including the option to use two eSIMs.
Spain’s model-specific battery ratings
Apple lists a rated battery capacity of 4,056 mAh for the Spain-listed iPhone 18 Pro, model A3714, and 5,391 mAh for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, model A3717. Apple also says eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro Max models use space previously occupied by the physical SIM to increase battery life.
Apple’s C2 statement and EU feature availability
Apple announced its C2 cellular modem system for both iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Apple said Siri AI would not initially be available in the EU on iOS. Its launch announcement also said Apple Reference Image capture would be unavailable at launch in the EU on iPhone 18 Pro models, while users could develop and view reference images on iOS, iPadOS and macOS 27.
Using a U.S.-purchased model abroad
Apple says a U.S.-purchased iPhone 18 Pro can be activated abroad if the carrier supports eSIM. 5G and LTE service also depend on carrier support and the radio frequencies available in the country where the phone is used. Before relying on a U.S. model overseas, check that the carrier supports eSIM activation and the phone’s relevant frequencies.
