The iPhone Duo is the pick if you want a large folding display in an iPhone; the iPhone 18 Pro is the more camera-focused option and costs $800 less in the listed US 256GB configurations. The key catch: the Duo’s bigger screen does not give it iPad apps or iPad-style multitasking.
Apple lists a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display for iPhone Duo, compared with the iPhone 18 Pro’s 6.3-inch screen. Both use the A20 Pro chip, with a 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU, according to Apple’s model comparison.
| What matters | iPhone 18 Pro | iPhone Duo |
| Screen format | One 6.3-inch display | 7.6-inch folding inner display and 5.4-inch outer display |
| Chip | A20 Pro; 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU | A20 Pro; 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU |
| Rear cameras | Three 48MP cameras: variable-aperture main, ultrawide and telephoto | Two 48MP cameras: main and ultrawide |
| Software and multitasking | Standard iPhone app interface | iPhone apps with Duo-specific Split View |
The Duo gives you more screen, not an iPad
The Duo’s 7.6-inch inner display gives you more room to read, watch video or use supported side-by-side layouts than the Pro’s single 6.3-inch screen. You can also use the Duo’s 5.4-inch outer display when you want a smaller screen without opening the phone.
But the software remains iPhone-oriented. Apple’s developer documentation describes Duo-specific app layouts and Split View; the device does not run iPad apps or offer iPad Stage Manager and freely resizable floating windows. Engadget’s reporting on the software also describes that distinction. If you want an iPad-like app environment, the larger diagonal alone won’t deliver it. The Duo makes more sense when your priority is a folding iPhone screen and the apps you already use on iPhone.
The Pro has the more versatile listed rear-camera system
Apple lists three 48MP rear cameras for iPhone 18 Pro, including a dedicated telephoto camera and a variable-aperture main camera. iPhone Duo has two 48MP rear cameras, a main and an ultrawide. That gives camera-first buyers a concrete hardware reason to favor the Pro, particularly if they want a dedicated telephoto camera. The specifications describe the camera hardware, not a standardized image-quality comparison.
Shared chip, different battery figures
Both phones list the A20 Pro, with a 6-core CPU and 7-core GPU. Apple’s video-playback estimates differ by model and, for Duo, by which screen is in use: up to 31 hours on the inner display or 44 hours on the outer display, compared with up to 36 hours for iPhone 18 Pro.
Those are Apple’s video-playback estimates, not a single measure of everyday battery life. Separately, PCMag reported a 23-hour, 45-minute result for iPhone 18 Pro in its battery test. That test result and Apple’s playback estimates use different measures, so they don’t provide a direct like-for-like comparison with the Duo’s figures.
The US 256GB price gap is $800
Apple’s US Store lists the 256GB iPhone Duo at $1,999, while PCMag lists the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro at $1,199. Subtracting those listed prices puts the Duo $800 higher at the same storage capacity. The amounts are specific to these US 256GB configurations.
Which one fits your priorities?
Choose iPhone Duo if you’ll make regular use of its larger folding screen and its iPhone-based Split View fits the way you use apps. It offers a different screen format, not iPad apps or iPad-style window management.
Choose iPhone 18 Pro if a dedicated telephoto camera and the listed three-camera rear system matter more to you than having a foldable display. Its listed US 256GB price is also $800 lower than Duo’s.
Apple’s announced US schedule
Apple announced US preorders for iPhone Duo beginning October 16, 2026, with retail availability scheduled to begin October 23, 2026. Those dates were still in the future on October 11, 2026, the publication date of this article. Apple’s announcement sets the schedule for the United States.
