What the reported installation involves
Time Extension reports that the ODE is intended to connect where the PS1’s CD drive normally sits. The installation would require some work, but is designed to be reversible and not require soldering. Time Extension’s report
The outlet described a prototype connected to a PSOne and identified the visible USB-C cable as development equipment.
What an existing PS1 ODE offers
ArcStation’s product page lists support for PS1 “fat” models and PSone. Its ODE loads CUE/BIN, ISO, or single-BIN disc images from an SD card of at least 1 GB, formatted FAT32 or exFAT. The card is not included. ArcStation’s official specifications
ArcStation also lists multidisc support, virtual memory cards, and a controller-reset feature. The virtual memory card and controller reset are unavailable on PSone.
