Continuing our exploration to find resources that let us learn programming online, today we take a look at a very particular portal. Instead of betting on a more complex platform or relying on endless video tutorials, “Learn X in Y minutes” offers a quick and basic starting point for dozens of languages, and most importantly, it has fairly solid Spanish translations, a detail that falls short on many other sites…

Learning to program. For some people it seems impossible, but all you need to get started is willpower, a little time, and good resources. The real challenge is balancing those three factors. Nobody assimilates code on the first try, and the process demands many hours of practice. The question is: how do you distribute it? Do you prefer to “burn” entire weekends, or something more fragmented? “Learn X in Y minutes” is a creation of developer Adam Bard, and all the content that appears there is published by the community, under CC 3.0 license. From a technical point of view, the portal was not designed for novices, but for professionals who need a quick introduction to their next language. Part of that profile is reflected in the expressions used inside the tutorials (since on more than one occasion they assume prior knowledge), but anyone can get their feet wet there and study the essence of dozens of languages and tools.

By far, the most interesting aspect of “Learn X in Y minutes” is the Spanish translations. Other sites publish huge and excellent guides, but without a viable translation or a coherent use of pseudocode, many people end up forced to learn two languages instead of one. The translations are also community-driven, and from what we’ve seen, of good quality.

“Learn X in Y minutes” does not require registration or account creation, and its interface supports dark mode, so you can change its appearance with a single click.
