Recently we talked about GUIScrcpy, an excellent tool to take control of any Android device from a computer. However, there is also the possibility of mirroring. Capturing the screen of a mobile or tablet has its uses, and for that there are apps like LetsView, which besides being free, also works in both directions, allowing the reproduction of the desktop on a mobile device.
Mirroring is much more than playing Netflix on a big screen using your mobile. Depending on the situation, that action can turn a smartphone or tablet into a temporary desktop computer, a presentation platform, or why not, a game console. While there are already many official solutions (Samsung DeX, for example), our main goal is to explore generic, compatible, and if possible free options. With that in mind, we came to LetsView, a platform to capture the screen of an Android mobile or tablet on any PC, and vice versa.
Capture the screen of any Android device with LetsView
LetsView is divided into two pieces of software. The first one must be installed on the computer, whether Windows or Mac OS. The official page offers a special version compatible with Smart TVs, but the setup process is more complex. The second half of LetsView is its mobile app, available on the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store.
For stable mirroring, both the computer and the mobile device need to be connected to the same wireless network. From a technical standpoint, LetsView supports remote transmission between different networks, but that requires creating an account, and latency issues multiply. In fact, the performance of LetsView was not the best in our tests.
One of the most interesting aspects of LetsView is that it works in both directions. In other words, the desktop application allows us to mirror the computer to the mobile device. This is especially useful when playing video in formats incompatible with the smartphone or tablet, but everything will depend on the performance and stability of the connection.
Which brings us to its weak point: LetsView needs to optimize its connectivity profile. On more than one occasion we were forced to close both apps and run them again because the tablet and the computer did not find each other, even on the same network. Anyway, it is possible that LetsView works much better under other configurations, so our recommendation is to give it a chance.
