Lian Li DK-04: A Motorized Hybrid Between a Standing Desk and a PC Case
DK-04

The DIY community has carried out all kinds of modifications to their desks to install the main components of a computer on them, eliminating the presence of a traditional case. At the same time, many users swear again and again about the benefits of standing desks. The folks at Lian Li, a company known for its extravagant designs, decided to unite both concepts under its new product DK-04, which features a motorized height adjustment system.

More than once I was on the verge of modifying my desk to change its height and work standing up. Lack of time is the main reason that keeps me sitting (?), but in recent months several studies have also emerged that contradict the “marvelous benefits” of standing desks. In other words, the user is trapped in a maze of contradictory information, and each one will have to evaluate for themselves what is best for their body and their productivity. Of course, the demand for standing desks remains strong, and Lian Li believes there is room for much more sophisticated offers, such as the new DK-04 desk.

Technical specifications

The DK-04 is 120 centimeters wide, 75 centimeters deep, and its height can vary between 78 and 117 centimeters. Its surface is tempered glass, and according to the official page, its maximum load is 100 kilograms. The desk body is made of aluminum, but Lian Li opted for iron for the main supports. Inside the desk we find a 5.25-inch bay, eight 3.5 or 2.5-inch bays, ATX and micro ATX support, eight expansion slots, eight 120-millimeter fans, four USB 3.0 ports, and all the corresponding audio inputs/outputs. The height adjustment system is fully motorized, and its control panel includes four “memories” that allow recording different configurations, in case the desk is used by more than one user.

Compatibility and price

The DK-04 desk offers a wide margin of compatibility in graphics cards (32 centimeters is the maximum length), and there is enough space for installing a radiator if the cooling system is liquid. The possibility of removing the motherboard tray entirely and the presence of hooks that help with cable management should allow for quick and clean installations. As expected, the price-to-quality ratio of Lian Li products follows the same parameters as always, and whoever wants to acquire the DK-04 will have to think about 1,499 dollars.
