Phoronix reported on October 23, 2026, that power-management, ACPI, and thermal changes had been merged for Linux 7.4 during the week of its report. The changes cover AMD Zen 6 support in AMD P-State, Intel Rugged Panther Lake support in two drivers, and other subsystem fixes. The report describes code changes, not measured gains in battery life or performance.

AMD Zen 6 changes in AMD P-State

For AMD Zen 6 Ryzen client processors, Phoronix reported initial handling of maximum-frequency capacity in AMD P-State, along with new Energy Performance Preference (EPP) tuning for performance, power, and low-power core types. EPP is a setting that guides the balance between processor performance and power use.

Rugged Panther Lake support in Intel drivers

Phoronix reported that Intel's RAPL PowerCapping driver and TCC Cooling Thermal driver gained support for Rugged Panther Lake. The report also described a temperature-reporting fix around 0°C in Intel's int340x thermal driver.

ACPI and other fixes

The Linux 7.4 changes also include reported fixes for ACPI CPPC, a rework of ACPI device enumeration, and IOVT IOMMU support for ACPICA. Phoronix also noted general AMD P-State fixes.

These changes describe driver and subsystem support. Phoronix reported no measured battery-life, power-consumption, processor-performance, or resume-time results.
