Reports published October 29, 2026 described two proposed driver submissions for the Linux 7.5 development cycle. They cover AMD NPU telemetry and GPU and display support. The work describes proposed driver capabilities, not measured performance gains in applications, games, or NPU inference.

AMDXDNA proposals cover NPU activity and AIE4 functions

Phoronix reported that the proposed AMDXDNA changes would expose NPU busy time through DRM fdinfo, an interface for reporting information about DRM file descriptors. The proposals also include driver fixes and support for newer firmware.

A separate set of proposed AMDXDNA functions for AIE4 covers reading and setting the power mode, managing the kernel queue lifecycle, supporting memory layouts, and handling suspend and resume. These are driver functions; they do not establish a performance increase.

Panfrost and display support

The proposed Panfrost changes add support for Arm Mali G68 and improve GPU reset handling and initialization. Display-related proposals include HDMI 2.0 support for rockchip/dw-hdmi-qp and HDMI 1.x capabilities for other bridge drivers.

The same reported work includes ARGB8888 pixel-format support for VirtIO primary planes and support for the BOE NE140WUM-N41 panel.

What the October reports said about release status

On October 29, 2026, Phoronix described the proposals as preparatory development work, not changes in a stable kernel release. The two reported submissions were intended for the Linux 7.5 development cycle; the first was sent during the Linux 7.4 merge window, and another followed the next week.
