Live-Action Fullmetal Alchemist Movie Trailers

Based on the successful manga by Hiromu Arakawa, the live-action film version of Fullmetal Alchemist finally arrives at the end of the year, where two brothers embark on a journey in search of the Philosopher's Stone to restore their bodies. Enjoy the trailers.

2017 seems to be the year of manga and anime adaptations. We already saw the American version of Ghost in the Shell at the beginning of the year, while next month brings Death Note (on Netflix) and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable Chapter I. But that's not all, because at the end of the year comes Fullmetal Alchemist, a Japanese film based on the manga of the same name by Hiromu Arakawa, which was published between 2001 and 2010. For those not in the know, the story takes place in a world inspired by steampunk, similar to post‑Industrial Revolution Europe, focusing on the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who want to restore their bodies by means of the Philosopher's Stone after a failed attempt to resurrect their mother through alchemy.

The success of the manga allowed for two anime series, two animated films, and five video games, among other products. But what was missing was a live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movie, which already has a release date for the end of the year. The story of this adaptation takes place at the beginning of the 20th century, in a reality where alchemy (an ancient esoteric science that sought the transmutation of matter) is real, highly developed, and respected. The plot features the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric who, after attempting the forbidden technique of human transmutation, suffer the consequences: Alphonse loses his entire body while Edward loses his left leg.

So Edward decides to sacrifice his right arm to save his brother's soul by binding it to a suit of armor. Edward gets a mechanical prosthesis known as Automail in place of his missing arm and leg, and becomes a State Alchemist, earning the name Fullmetal Alchemist, and sets out with Alphonse to find the legendary Philosopher's Stone that will repair their bodies. The movie stars Ryosuke Yamada, Tsubasa Honda, and Dean Fujioka, among others. Directed by Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong, Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker), Fullmetal Alchemist is scheduled to be released in Japanese theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures on December 1, 2017.
