With HeidiSQL you can easily manage any database. The tool's interface is much friendlier than that of phpMyAdmin, thanks to the fact that HeidiSQL works locally on your computer. You can connect unlimited databases, choosing among MySQL, Microsoft SQL and PostgreSQL. You can also add comments to each connected database.
Once you open the application, you'll see its simple interface divided into three tabs: “Settings”, “Advanced” and “Statistics”, from which you'll control your databases. The utility lets you connect manually to the database or migrate settings files.
Once you have created the name of the database connection, you'll need to enter the “Network type”, the server IP, the username for the database, the user's password and the “Port” if necessary, in order to connect to the server's database.
In the “Advanced” section you can use SSL features, the startup script and set the time zone. And in the “Statistics” tab you can see all the statistics related to the created database. Now you have everything set up to manage and administer the database and its tables through the connection HeidiSQL has created, all in a simple working environment.
HeidiSQL is a free application. You can download it in executable or portable versions and it is available for Windows operating systems. It works well on Mac OS X and Linux via Wine.
