MDI files cannot be viewed with conventional viewers, so we need programs especially designed for them. In this article, we present two MDI viewers for Windows. For those unfamiliar with MDI files, here is a brief explanation: MDI “Microsoft Document Imaging” is a file that contains images of scanned documents.
The viewers we present will allow you to open single- or multi-page MDI files. They also offer extra options: printing MDI files, rotating MDI files, converting MDI files to PDF, and more.
Free MDI Converter
We'll start with Free MDI Converter, whose main function is batch converting MDI files to PDF. It also includes a powerful MDI viewer where you can add single- or multi-page files. The viewer's interface is very good: on the left you'll see page thumbnails, and in the center you'll view the MDI file. The platform also offers these functions: rotate MDI files 180 degrees, rotate clockwise, rotate counterclockwise, word search, print MDI, and more.
MDI Viewer
MDI Viewer is a very good MDI viewer that lets you open single- or multi-page files. The interface is very basic and doesn't include extra options, except for an MDI converter that requires a third-party tool (we don't recommend using this feature). If you need a program to view an MDI file without distractions, this environment is certainly a good choice.
Both options are very good environments for viewing MDI files. But if we had to highlight one platform, it's Free MDI Converter, because it offers extra options that let you rotate files and activate its search function, among others.
