MediaTek reportedly told investors on its October 30, 2026, earnings call that it had secured a second customer for custom AI accelerators. Taipei Times reported that the customer was described as outside China, while TrendForce tied the new project to a 2028 production and revenue outlook.
The disclosure adds another reported customer to MediaTek’s data-center accelerator business. The production window is broad: a separate Q1 2028 schedule reported by Taipei Times concerns a second-generation chip for an existing customer.
What was reported about the customer
Taipei Times reported that MediaTek did not identify the customer and described it as non-Chinese. The report said the clarification was intended to rebut speculation that ByteDance was the buyer.
The chip and its reported timeline
Rick Tsai described a second AI chip as a multi-die XPU, a processor built from multiple silicon dies, Taipei Times reported. Several dies had completed tape-out, the step in which a chip design is sent to a manufacturer for fabrication. A larger, more complex die was scheduled for tape-out in the weeks after the October 30 call.
TrendForce reported that the new customer’s project was expected to enter mass production and contribute revenue in 2028. Taipei Times reported Q1 2028 volume production for a second-generation chip serving an existing customer, a separate project schedule.
Revenue forecasts concern MediaTek’s first AI-ASIC program
MediaTek’s first AI-ASIC program began small-volume shipments in September 2026, TrendForce reported. For that program, MediaTek forecast about $2.5 billion in revenue in Q4 2026 and about $16 billion in 2027, Focus Taiwan reported. The company also forecast roughly 20% of the AI-accelerator ASIC market in 2027. Those projections concern the first program, not revenue attributed to the second customer.
