You can create images, songs, translations, and even virtual girlfriends, but what about algorithmic models with 3D object generation? We previously talked about the CSM platform that helps convert 2D images to 3D, however, the folks at Meshy offer a complete 3D generator that works with just a text prompt, and a few minutes of our time.
Almost all analyses of artificial intelligences with a negative profile warn about the possibility of using algorithms to eliminate jobs. In practice, that is already happening: One of the most recent examples is Gizmodo, which decided to displace all its Spanish editors to cover the gap with AI-backed translation... which we have seen make appalling mistakes. However, it is also necessary to explore the potential of artificial intelligences as assistants or tools to develop specific resources. Previously we studied the offering of Leonardo.ai, which enables a very generous free model, and shares models optimized for generating graphics for video games. But today is the turn of Meshy, which seeks to take the next step: Generation of 3D objects with artificial intelligence.
Create 3D objects using artificial intelligence in Meshy
The main functions of Meshy are three: Texture generation for 3D objects, conversion of 2D images to 3D, and creation of 3D models from a simple prompt. All three are in a preliminary stage of development, but Meshy allows us to access them without restrictions.
When preparing the prompt, the interface offers four parameters: Object, Style, Negative Prompt, and Artistic Style. In Object we enter a basic description (e.g., 'coffee cup'), Style helps us define the main characteristics ('white', 'modern', 'generic', etc.), Negative Prompt serves to avoid certain things, and finally Artistic Style tells the algorithm what general style to adopt.
Meshy shares a guide with very useful details to optimize prompts, and also mentions support for several languages, including Spanish. Still, any previous experience in prompt engineering compatible with Stable Diffusion will be very useful here. Meshy can generate PBR maps, and enables downloads in three different formats: FBX, GLB, and USDZ.
To finish, Meshy uses a credit system. The free mode has a cap of 200 per month, each generation costs 5 credits, and each download 20. Credits can be purchased in packs, or through subscriptions.
