Meta One is an optional paid layer, not a paywall for Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Meta announced the service on September 15, 2026, saying that the core app experience and everyday Meta AI use remain free while subscriptions add features, professional tools and expanded access to eligible AI capabilities. In the United States, prices range from $2.99 per month for WhatsApp Plus to $499 per month for Meta One Max.
Meta One does not make the core apps paid
You can continue using Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and everyday Meta AI without a Meta One subscription. The paid service adds extras around those products rather than replacing their free versions.
Meta announced more than 50 features across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI. It also reported 15 million combined subscriptions and trials to date—a figure that includes both categories, not paying subscribers alone.
What Meta One includes
Meta’s individual plans fall into two groups. Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus attach extra features to one service each. Meta One Core bundles those three Plus benefits and adds increased access to eligible AI tools. Meta One Premium includes the Core benefits with more AI capacity.
Core and Premium can include expanded use of image generation and editing, video generation, Instagram Restyle and voice effects. The exact benefits shown to a subscriber can vary by location, app, account type, linked accounts and eligibility.
The separate Essential, Advanced, Expert and Max plans target creators and businesses. Their benefits can include professional presence tools, verification-related features, impersonation protection, links, scheduling, insights, account sharing, support, business broadcast credits and Meta Business Agent access.
A useful rule of thumb: Plus plans are single-service upgrades, Core and Premium are consumer bundles with more AI access, and the four higher tiers are designed around creator and business operations.
| Plan family | Audience | Main scope |
| Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus | Individual users | Extra features for one participating service |
| Meta One Core | Individual users and AI users | The three Plus benefits plus increased access to eligible AI tools |
| Meta One Premium | Individual users and AI users | Core benefits plus more eligible AI capacity |
| Essential, Advanced, Expert and Max | Creators and businesses | Professional tools, verification-related features, support and operational capabilities that vary by tier |
The WhatsApp Plus tier illustrates the single-product approach: its US price is $2.99 per month, with features such as exclusive stickers, custom app icons, themes, ringtones, upgraded chat lists and additional pinned chats.

What changes for Meta AI
Core and Premium are not simply bundles of cosmetic app controls. They also increase access to eligible Meta AI features, including image generation, image editing, video creation and transformation, Instagram Restyle, and voice and sound effects.
Meta does not present one fixed allowance that applies to every Core or Premium subscriber. The features and limits shown during onboarding can depend on the region, app, account, linked accounts and eligibility. That makes the plan level useful as a pricing guide, but not a guarantee of an identical AI allowance for every user.
Availability depends on the account
Meta described the launch as global, while its help information says that actual availability and benefits vary by location, app, account type, linked accounts and eligibility. A plan may therefore appear differently across accounts, even when the plan name is the same.
The same distinction applies to the creator and business tiers. Essential, Advanced, Expert and Max have different operational features, but the specific benefits offered to an account can depend on its status and the offer shown during onboarding.
Billing, renewal and cancellation
Meta One subscriptions renew automatically each billing period unless canceled. Billing is handled through the Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on the device, and cancellation uses the same store account used for the subscription.
An Android walkthrough shows cancellation through Google Play’s Payments & subscriptions menu. It also documents one support interaction in which the Premium Support flow was handled by Meta AI rather than reaching a human agent. That is one individual experience during an early or regional rollout, not a universal result for every Meta One subscriber.
For most casual users, the key point is refreshingly simple: Meta’s core apps remain free. Meta One is worth considering only when a specific paid feature—more eligible AI access, single-app customization, or a creator and business tool—matches what you actually need.
