If there is something we can define as consistent at Microsoft, it is the quality of the wallpapers that accompany Windows and other company products. We have previously explored shared selections by users on the web, but today it's Microsoft Design's turn, which offers small collections of wallpapers, and includes an excellent alternative 4K version of Bliss, the classic background that dominated our monitors during the Windows XP years.
If you want to change your wallpaper on Windows, you actually have a huge number of options at your disposal. You can follow the animated route, explore other wallpapers from Redmond, or inject a bit of retro into your desktop. Today we're going to talk about the latter... but it comes with a twist.

The Bliss wallpaper from Windows XP needs no introduction. In fact, its creator Charles O'Rear told the complete story a couple of years ago. But we are in the high-definition era, and Bliss definitely needs an upgrade. That's what the Microsoft Design portal delivers. This 4K-rendered variant of Bliss accompanies other photorealistic wallpapers inspired by Clippy, Microsoft Paint, and the Solitaire game.
Other packages focus on emojis, Pride Month celebrations, mobile devices, and products like the Surface line, OneDrive, Office, and 365. The best part is that you don't need Microsoft accounts or anything similar. All downloads are available in zip files, or as individual wallpapers at the bottom of the page. The 4K resolution dominates these wallpapers, but their format is divided between JPG and PNG.
The last update of Microsoft Design dates back to December 2022, and if we look at the creation dates of the wallpapers, we can see they are even older. However, I would like Redmond to keep uploading and sharing wallpapers in the future.
