Microsoft announced a Windows 11 Xbox mode update on October 16, 2026: Gaming Task View gains a navigation bar with quick access to Exit to Desktop and Power Options. Microsoft lists the change in two Windows Insider preview builds, not as a general Windows release. Microsoft’s announcement
Two builds, two Windows versions
The update appears in Beta Build 26220.9739, based on Windows 11 version 25H2, and Experimental Build 26340.9750, based on version 26H2. Microsoft lists the Gaming Task View change in the Beta release notes and Experimental release notes.
What the preview means
Microsoft says Experimental features may begin rolling out to a subset of Insiders before expanding. Preview features can also change, be removed, or never ship beyond Insider builds, so the build listings do not promise that every Insider will see the new controls right away.
