Microsoft said on October 9, 2026, that Office features were beginning to roll out in the Copilot app for Frontier customers using Chat and Cowork. The announced apps are Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, in a workflow that connects prompts, document editing, collaboration, and the Library. Microsoft’s announcement describes a way to move between Copilot and standalone Office apps. NeoTeo previously covered the redesigned Copilot app; this announcement focuses on how Office work fits into it.
From a prompt to a shared document
Microsoft describes a Word workflow that starts with a prompt: the document opens in an editing canvas beside the Copilot conversation, where users can make changes directly or refine the draft with follow-up prompts. That keeps the conversation and the document together while the work takes shape.
Microsoft also describes sharing, comments, coauthoring, and presence in the same view, with changes visible in real time. Those features are intended to support collaborative work without requiring users to leave the Copilot workspace for each edit.
The Library connects Copilot files with Office
The Copilot Library brings together recent Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files created in Copilot or in Office apps. Microsoft says users can reopen files there and continue working alongside Copilot. Files are stored in OneDrive and retain their formatting, comments, sharing permissions, and version history, according to the company.
Microsoft also says the files inherit an organization’s security labels, compliance requirements, and governance controls. Users can switch to standalone Office apps and continue working, so the announced workflow connects Copilot with those apps rather than replacing them.
Who the rollout is for
Microsoft named Frontier customers using Chat and Cowork as the initial audience for the rollout. The announcement covers Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
