Minecraft Dungeons II is a cooperative action RPG built around direct combat and gear-based character builds. A hands-on review published September 28 found a colorful, approachable adventure with more equipment options, but also repetitive level design and a weak endgame. Xbox announced September 29, 2026, as the release date and said the game would join Game Pass on day one.

Straightforward, gear-driven combat

The game keeps character building focused on equipment rather than complex skill trees. Xbox’s preview describes a classless system with one melee-weapon slot, one ranged-weapon slot, three artifact slots, four armor slots and three talisman slots. Artifacts provide active abilities, while equipment and enchantments shape a character’s setup.

That structure gives players choices without asking them to manage a sprawling skill tree. The trade-off, according to the hands-on review, is limited character-building depth: progression stays closely tied to finding and replacing gear. A jumping attack and the ability to jump add movement options to the combat.

A connected world leads to The Sift

Minecraft Dungeons II takes players from the Overworld into The Sift, a new dimension in the Minecraft universe. Instead of selecting separate missions from a menu, players explore a connected, fixed world with dungeons. The change gives the adventure a more continuous sense of place, although the review found that dungeon layouts and activities could feel repetitive.

Co-op for up to four players

The reported co-op supports up to four players in local or online play, with cross-play and the option to combine local and online participants. That flexibility makes it easier for a group to play together even when everyone is not using the same setup. The same gear-focused systems apply in co-op, keeping character progression relatively easy to follow.

One playthrough, a short campaign and a thin endgame

One reviewer completed the campaign in a little over seven hours. That playthrough is a useful indication of its scale, not a completion-time guarantee. The review praised the accessible action but criticized repetitive level design and described the endgame as very weak, leaving less incentive to keep playing after the campaign.

For players looking for a straightforward co-op campaign, the combination of direct combat and flexible group play is the clearest draw. Players who want a deep character-building system or a substantial endgame may find less to keep them engaged.

What one PC test found

In a review test using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, an AMD Ryzen 5600X and 32 GB of RAM, gameplay ran at a stable 60 FPS at 1440p with High settings. Cinematic sequences were reported at an unstable 30 FPS. Those are separate observations from one PC setup, not a performance guarantee for other computers or consoles.
