Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 launched on October 27, 2026 as a native Bedrock Edition release with Vibrant Visuals and the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. Existing players can move their original Switch worlds to the new console, and eligible owners have a limited-time upgrade offer. The Mario-themed world has its own online multiplayer restriction: only Switch 2 players can join.

What the Switch 2 version includes

Minecraft on Switch 2 is Bedrock Edition, the version that supports cross-play with other supported Bedrock platforms. Playing across platforms requires a Microsoft Account, and online multiplayer on Nintendo Switch requires Nintendo Switch Online.

The graphics option Vibrant Visuals adds directional lighting, volumetric fog and dynamic shadows. Nintendo says it is unavailable in split-screen and in some Marketplace worlds or content, so players may need to choose another visual mode for those sessions.

The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack includes 40 player skins and 15 tracks. To claim it, search the Marketplace for “Super Mario Mash-Up” and claim the pack for free. Players who migrate a Mario world or have a Mario skin equipped can also get a prompt from the Worlds List screen.

US editions, prices and upgrade terms

Nintendo lists three digital editions at regular US prices:

Digital editionRegular US price
Standard Edition$29.99
Deluxe Collection$39.99
Ultimate Collection$49.99

The Deluxe Collection includes 700 Minecoins and cosmetic and add-on content. Ultimate includes the Deluxe content plus 300 more Minecoins, for 1,000 total. Minecoins included or purchased on a Nintendo device must be used within the Nintendo ecosystem.

Mojang says digital owners of the original Switch version can upgrade to the digital Standard Edition for free in most territories. The free offer excludes Japan, Taiwan and Thailand. Owners, including physical-game owners, can receive an in-game invitation to buy the digital Ultimate Collection at a discount; Mojang does not give a discount amount here.

The stated offer window runs from October 27, 2026, at 9 a.m. Pacific Time to January 31, 2027, at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. A free Standard upgrade is for eligible digital owners; the discounted Ultimate offer is a separate path that can also reach physical owners through the in-game invitation.

Move an existing Switch world

Mojang’s migration process transfers worlds from the original Switch to Switch 2, one Nintendo Account at a time. First transfer the Nintendo user data through System Settings → Users → Transfer Your User Data. Then, when Minecraft first launches on Switch 2, let it migrate detected worlds automatically, or open Settings → Storage → Sync Old Worlds.

Mario-world multiplayer and performance settings

ibxtoycat’s English-language review discusses Minecraft on Switch 2, including its visual settings and render distance

Bedrock supports cross-play across its supported platforms, but the Super Mario Mash-Up world is an exception: only Switch 2 players can join its online multiplayer. Players on the original Switch and non-Nintendo platforms cannot join that specific world.

Reviewer ibxtoycat reports a frame-rate setting of up to 120 FPS with Vibrant Visuals disabled and a render-distance setting of up to 28 chunks. Those are reported settings, not a promise of sustained frame rates across worlds. Player accounts about performance vary, with some preferring to turn Vibrant Visuals off for smoother play.
