Interactive fiction is a medium that has really been expanding in the digital space. Able Black, by Skot Leach, tells the story of an android taking a test to determine whether it will live or die, using text, images, and sounds to guide you through a series of puzzles. Comparisons with Device 6 by Simogo are inevitable, but Leach's creation has its own personality. While Device 6 challenges you to find the puzzles and answers in the text, Able Black is a bit more direct and very different in tone. Patchwork
Board games have great exponents on mobile devices, such as Ticket to Ride and Catan. Patchwork is the digital adaptation of Uwe Rosenberg's game, an exceptional title that combines two boards: the game board where players move, and the general board that determines how players move. Each player takes turns sewing pieces onto their quilt; each sewn piece will determine how many moves along the board the player can make. The pieces that can be used depend on how many buttons the player has, which also depends on careful sewing. It's surprisingly deep and strategic. There's an excellent AI mode for those who want to play solo, and you can play both locally and online against other players. Zenge
Another puzzle title, though this one is a bit stranger. In Zenge puzzles become "pages" in the story of Eon, a traveler between worlds. Your task is to put these pages together, literally, by sliding puzzle pieces into position, moving other pieces out of the way along tracks so they don't block your path. It seems quite simple, but it gets more complex as you play. That said, it never becomes frustrating either. The game has no timers or move limits, meaning you can take all the time you need to solve a level, resulting in a truly relaxing experience.
