A Steampunk World on the Move
Set in a post-apocalyptic steampunk world born of a cataclysm, humanity has adapted to a new way of life in which entire cities have been mounted on wheels and motorized, attacking smaller towns without pity in search of resources. The story of Mortal Engines introduces Tom Natsworthy, from the lower class of London, who must fight for his life after encountering the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw. Two unlikely heroes, whose paths were never meant to cross, forge a peculiar alliance destined to change the course of the future.
Peter Jackson Leaves Middle-earth
Peter Jackson leaves Middle-earth and presents the trailer for Mortal Engines, his new epic adventure. The video gives us a glimpse of Shaw aboard a small town being devoured by a gigantic London. This film adaptation is based on the novel Mortal Engines, the award-winning science fiction book series by Philip Reeve. The book focuses on a futuristic steampunk London, now a giant deadly machine struggling to survive in a world running out of resources. If success accompanies its release, we're sure to see the rest of this epic saga (there are four books in the Predator Cities series).
Cast and Crew
The film stars Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide, and Stephen Lang, among others. Produced by Universal Pictures and Media Rights Capital, Christian Rivers (responsible for the visual effects in the 2005 version of King Kong) directed the film with a script by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and Peter Jackson (all distinguished by the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies). Mortal Engines will hit theaters in 2D, 3D, Real 3D, and IMAX on December 14, 2018.
