WhatsApp's development has always had a more conservative profile when compared to other messengers. The experience of using WhatsApp on computers is still limited, the requirement of a phone number never disappeared, and the standard client lacks features such as the possibility of activating two or more accounts. The news is that Meta seems to have taken up the gauntlet on this last point, and beta testers received in recent days an update that enables multi-account mode.
Despite controversies and unwanted changes to its terms of use, WhatsApp's popularity has not declined. In fact, the main complaints from users point to the lack of features that are already present in direct competitors like Telegram. One of those features is multi-account support. Until now, users were forced to apply different tricks to run two separate instances of WhatsApp, but the information that arrives through the WABetaInfo portal suggests that "multi-account in WhatsApp" is on its way.
Multi-account support for WhatsApp has already arrived in the beta
The WABetaInfo portal obtained access to the beta and shared an image with the new menu.
The first reports date back to mid-June, when WhatsApp for Business beta received an update to version 2.23.13.5. Multi-account support appeared in a special menu, which includes a simple option called "Add Account". However, that same menu made an appearance in editions 2.23.17.7 and 2.23.17.8 of the standard WhatsApp beta.
The access button to the menu is located next to the QR code icon, and it also serves to switch from one account to another. WABetaInfo explains that when adding a new account, it will remain on the device until the user performs a manual logout. Multi-account support will be especially useful with dual-SIM devices, greatly simplifying the activation of a secondary account.
Those who wish to try the multi-account feature today should go to the Google Play Store and indicate their desire to receive builds beta for the messenger. As always, we do not recommend this in production and/or work environments or devices, and most likely Meta will take its time before we see it in the stable edition.
