Just as Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro are handling the development of Silent Hills, Hifumi Kono, creator of the Clock Tower series, together with Takashi Shimizu, director of the film The Grudge, are behind this new horror adventure called NightCry, the spiritual successor to Clock Tower.

The Story

The story of NightCry takes place on a cruise ship in the middle of a voyage. While the surroundings are luxurious and the guests are friendly, not everything is as it should be. Guests and crew begin to appear dead, victims of some killer on board. Paranoia takes over the people, who start to suspect one another. Everything depends on you now to start searching for clues that lead you to the killer while the ship is lost in the open sea. But be careful, because your actions will determine how many survive until the end.

Gameplay

NightCry is the spiritual successor to Clock Tower and as such will maintain the same point-and-click adventure gameplay to inspect and interact with objects. Why spiritual successor? Because the creator of this game is Hifumi Kono, responsible for the Clock Tower series, who has the collaboration of Takashi Shimizu, director of the film The Grudge. The game consists of two main modes: exploration and escape. In exploration mode you can tour the cruise ship and investigate the strange events by interacting with other characters in search of clues and solving puzzles. Escape mode takes place when you are being harassed by a dark presence (an old antagonist you will recognize if you played Clock Tower), where you can only run or hide to survive, since fighting is not an option.

Crowdfunding and Release

For now, the developers of this project have started a campaign to raise funds through the site Kickstarter. The game needs $300,000 to finance itself and come out on Windows. The most interesting thing about this campaign is that the most generous contributors will receive gifts ranging from a copy of the game, going through the soundtrack and signed art, to a dinner with Kono and Shimizu in Tokyo. NightCry is being developed by Playism Games and will be available in two versions: the first intended for Windows that will come out only if the Kickstarter campaign is funded. The second is the PlayStation Vita and iOS and Android versions that will come out (even if the campaign fails) sometime in 2015.
