After more than thirty years since its launch, the old and beloved NES is preparing to hit the market once again in a refreshed version. It’s quite a surprise from Nintendo, who present the new Nintendo Classic Mini, a miniature version of the NES.
Launched on July 15, 1983 in Japan, the Nintendo Entertainment System (commonly abbreviated as NES) is Nintendo’s first major worldwide console (the Color TV-Game only came out in Japan). The NES gave rise to great classics like Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, franchises that are still relevant today. If merely naming those titles gave you a pang of nostalgia and you’re about to run and dust off your old NES tucked away in some corner of your home to relive the glory days of your childhood, wait a moment and read the following: Nintendo has just announced that it will release a miniature version of the NES known as the Nintendo Classic Mini.
A Mini NES with 30 Classic Games
The Nintendo Classic Mini works the same way as the original console. You simply connect it directly to an HDTV with the included HDMI cable. The console offers thirty preinstalled NES games, including the following classics: Balloon Fight, Bubble Bobble, Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Double Dragon II: The Revenge, Dr. Mario, Excitebike, Final Fantasy, Galaga, Ghosts’ N Ghoblins, Gradius, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby’s Adventure, Mario Bros., Mega Man 2, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Pac-Man, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream, StarTropics, SUPER C, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Tecmo Bowl, The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.
Although many titles were left out, Nintendo made sure to offer the most classic ones on its list. The good thing is that several of these games have multiplayer modes, ideal for reliving those matches with brothers and friends. This new edition of the console also includes an AC adapter and an NES controller for playing (which is also compatible with the Wii and Wii U consoles when connected to a Wiimote). The NES Classic Edition will go on sale starting November 11, 2016 and will cost $59.99. Keep it in mind because it can be the ideal gift this holiday season for the most nostalgic gamers.
