Nvidia announced a five-year commitment valued at $250 million in computing resources for AI safety and security research in the UK. The company puts the annual value of compute access at $50 million; the commitment is for computing resources, not a stated cash grant. Nvidia’s announcement describes the intended recipients and delivery plan.

What the research support is intended to cover

Nvidia says most of the commitment will support the wider UK AI safety and security research community, with a portion intended for BOLD, SOFAIR and Imperial College London. BOLD is led by the University of Oxford and works on AI systems that learn and adapt alongside people; SOFAIR, led by University College London, explores open-source AI architectures. Imperial’s stated work includes safety engineering and robotics. Nvidia has not assigned individual amounts to the named programs.

The planned research spans secure AI agents, open-model security, real-world threat mitigation, secure sandboxes, reproducible research and safety-assessment benchmarks. These are the program’s intended areas of work.

How Nvidia plans to provide the compute

Nvidia says it will fund access through UK-based NVIDIA Cloud Partners and host the infrastructure in the UK. Provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms are still to be agreed.
