OoT 2D: The Remake of Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time became an undisputed classic and was the first title in the series to use 3D graphics. But have you ever imagined what this game would be like in 2D? Well, to answer that, a group of fans present OoT 2D, a 2D remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 and later adapted for GameCube, iQue Player, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time introduced us to the kingdom of Hyrule, a highly detailed completely three-dimensional world in which, controlling Link, we embark on a mission to stop Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo tribe, before he finds the Triforce, a sacred relic capable of granting any wish to its holder. Throughout the adventure, Link has to travel through time and explore several temples to awaken the sages who have the power to imprison Ganondorf permanently.

The freedom of action that the game's robust engine would propose (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time became the first in the series to use 3D graphics) was undoubtedly its best publicity, and the game became an unprecedented classic. On this occasion, a group of fans are working on OoT 2D, a 2D remake of Ocarina of Time that is being designed in the style of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for the Super NES. It is planned that this remake will include extra content, as well as some interesting changes in the scenarios. According to its own programmers, the programming method is somewhat slow and outdated, but it grants total control over all things, which will result in a high-quality product. Considering that for more than a decade many attempts have been made and by various authors to carry out this project, let's hope this team can reach a successful conclusion. OoT 2D is being developed by the programmers Flotonic and Cheerful Sage and will be available on Windows, Linux, and Mac. The game does not have a concrete release date, but in the meantime you can try this project by downloading version v.15.2 of OoT 2D.
