OpenAI lists a $500-per-month ChatGPT Pro tier with access to GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast, while reported changes would cut the $200 tier’s shared ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance from 20 times the Plus allowance to 10 times on October 30. The changes were reported on September 29, 2026, with October 30 named as their scheduled effective date.
What OpenAI lists for Pro $500
OpenAI’s US-dollar pricing lists ChatGPT Pro at $100, $200 or $500 per month. The $500 tier is eligible for GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast. A reported usage allowance for the tier is 25 times the ChatGPT Plus allowance; Plus is listed at $20 per month.
That multiplier does not translate into a set number of coding tasks. OpenAI says subscription usage varies with the model, task complexity, context, tool use and whether work runs locally or in the cloud.
The reported Pro $200 changes
A reported change would halve the shared ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance for Pro $200, from 20 times the Plus allowance to 10 times, on October 30. That is separate from a reported reduction in GPT-6 Pro messages in Chat, from 200 to 100 per week.
Subscription usage and API billing are separate
Codex subscription use follows the limits attached to a ChatGPT plan. Using Codex with an API key is a separate billing route, charged at API rates. A lower API token rate does not automatically increase a subscription allowance.
Reported transition terms for existing subscribers
Existing Pro $200 subscribers were reported to keep their current limits through October 29. A reported one-time grant of 62,500 credits for those subscribers was valued by OpenAI at $2,500 and is set to expire on December 31, 2026.
