OpenAI Spain Iberia reportedly began operating at Calle Prim 19 in Madrid on September 17, 2026, according to Vozpópuli’s account of Spanish Mercantile Registry records. The company’s reported operations mark a later step than OpenAI’s June announcement of a planned Madrid office.

What OpenAI Spain Iberia is reported to do

Vozpópuli described OpenAI Spain Iberia as a Spanish limited company whose stated business purpose covers marketing, selling, distributing, developing and researching software products. The outlet also named Robert Jaylin Wu and Stephen Anthony Bonovich as leaders of the Spanish company, and reported OAI INTERNATIONAL INC as its sole shareholder.

From the office announcement to Madrid roles

On June 11, Matt Weaver announced Madrid as OpenAI’s next European office location. In the announcement, he said he had visited Spain about once a month over the preceding year to meet customers and partners, and that OpenAI was hiring.

The Madrid role examples in an OpenAI Careers listing included “Applied AI Engineer, Codex” and “Forward Deployed Engineer - Madrid (Spanish-speaking).”
