OpenAI announced a global, staged rollout of GPT-6 with Intelligent UI in ChatGPT’s Chat tab on Oct. 7, 2026. GPT-6 Sol was assigned to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, while GPT-6 Luna was scheduled for Free and Go; the Free and Go rollout was reported to have begun on Oct. 8. The update brings responses that can mix text with visual and interactive elements.
GPT-6 rollout schedule and plans
OpenAI’s announcement and release notes set out this plan-to-model allocation for ChatGPT:
| ChatGPT plan | Assigned Chat model | Announced rollout schedule |
| Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise | GPT-6 Sol | First in the global staged rollout, announced Oct. 7, 2026. Enterprise access depends on workspace administrator settings. |
| Free and Go | GPT-6 Luna | Scheduled to begin Oct. 8, 2026; the rollout was reported to have begun that day. |
The Oct. 8 report describes a rollout start, not a single account-by-account arrival time. If you use Free or Go, Luna is the model assigned to your plan in Chat; eligible Enterprise users may also need their workspace administrator’s settings to allow access.
How Intelligent UI changes ChatGPT responses
Intelligent UI lets ChatGPT combine written answers with graphics and interactive components. OpenAI’s examples include charts, diagrams, buttons, forms, calculators, bill splitters, and games. For a task such as planning a trip, that could mean a map alongside text; for a calculation, an interactive tool rather than only a written explanation. ChatGPT selects a format for the question and can still respond in plain text.
OpenAI says it built a streamable component library and a compiler so interface elements can appear progressively as GPT-6 generates an answer. The model can also begin responding while it continues thinking or using tools, then add findings without another prompt.
Where Intelligent UI works
OpenAI says the older ChatGPT desktop apps for Windows and macOS do not support Intelligent UI and recommends using ChatGPT on the web. On mobile, users need the latest available app version. The web setting called “Layout and visuals” can reduce visual elements, but some may still appear, so it does not guarantee text-only replies. The Help Center also says Intelligent UI has no separate quota; the usual plan, model, and tool limits still apply.
What OpenAI says about response speed
OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering an average of 44% sooner than GPT-5.6 Instant for questions that require web search. The figure concerns how soon a response begins, not how long the complete answer takes, and comes from OpenAI’s internal evaluation.
OpenAI’s help page still lists GPT-5.6 Luna
OpenAI’s Help Center page about GPT-5.6 and GPT-6 Pro still lists GPT-5.6 Luna for Free and Go, while the Oct. 7 rollout announcement assigns those plans GPT-6 Luna. The announcement gives the plan allocation for the Chat rollout.
