A New 16-Bit Adventure

WaterMelon Games, the studio behind Pier Solar and the Great Architects, is bringing another title to the 16-bit era. In 2010, Pier Solar marked the studio's return to Sega Genesis, and now Paprium: Rule, Be Ruled or Die! continues that tradition.

Paprium is a beat 'em up that, with its colorful visuals and polished gameplay, draws heavy inspiration from the Streets of Rage series. It features detailed stages, notable playable characters, and even more memorable enemies.

Price, Features, and Future

If you want to get your hands on it, you'll have to pay $89 for the complete pack, which includes the first volume of the Paprium manga, the manual, and the cartridge. Alternatively, there's a more basic version for $69.

The cartridge packs in 80 megabits, significantly more than the average Genesis game, and includes 24 levels, multiple game modes, multiplayer support, and a choice of five characters.

Just like its older sibling Pier Solar, which eventually made its way to PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U, Paprium might follow the same path. However, the developers have said that a PC port or a ROM for emulation would not do the game justice, as it was specifically designed to run at 60fps on Sega hardware. We'll just have to wait and see.
