PC Centric reported that the Ryzen 7 9850X3D averaged about 20 FPS more than the 9800X3D in Fortnite, and nearly 90 FPS more than the 7800X3D in Counter-Strike 2. Both results came from tests at 1080p; the Counter-Strike 2 result was on Anubis. The test system used an NVIDIA RTX 5090 and an MSI X870E Carbon motherboard. PC Centic’s comparison ties each result to its specific game and setup.
What the game results show
| Game and setting | Processors compared | Result reported by PC Centric | Resolution and test system |
| Fortnite, high preset | Ryzen 7 9850X3D and Ryzen 7 9800X3D | The 9850X3D averaged about 20 FPS more | 1080p; NVIDIA RTX 5090; MSI X870E Carbon |
| Counter-Strike 2, high preset on Anubis | Ryzen 7 9850X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D | The 9850X3D led by nearly 90 FPS | 1080p; NVIDIA RTX 5090; MSI X870E Carbon |
The Fortnite figure compares the 9850X3D with the 9800X3D; the Counter-Strike 2 result compares it with the 7800X3D. Those are distinct game-and-processor pairings, not one shared performance margin. For a buyer, the Fortnite result is the closer reference if those are the two CPUs under consideration and Fortnite is a priority; the Counter-Strike 2 figure applies to the tested matchup on Anubis.
PC Centric’s comparison covers the 7800X3D, 9800X3D and 9850X3D. It does not include the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, so the two reported leads do not compare that model with the other three.
AMD’s platform and cooling guidance for the 7700X3D
AMD specifies the Ryzen 7 7700X3D as an 8-core, 16-thread Zen 4 processor for the AM5 socket, with DDR5 memory support, 96 MB of L3 cache and a 120 W default TDP. AMD lists a maximum operating temperature of 89°C and recommends a liquid cooler for optimal performance; the boxed processor does not include a thermal solution. AMD’s 7700X3D specifications also list support for A620, X670E, X670, B650E, B650, X870E, X870, B840 and B850 chipsets.
Those details are specific to the 7700X3D. They give builders concrete checks for motherboard compatibility and cooler planning, while the game results above address three different processors under one 1080p test setup.
