If you want to repurpose an old computer, one of the many options at your disposal is turning it into a "torrent box" for exchanging files… but not all clients are suitable. In fact, many fell into the trap of feature creep; however, there are alternatives like PicoTorrent. Its portable version doesn't exceed 15 megabytes, uses little memory, and is also open source.
Unfortunately, some BitTorrent clients changed too much for users' taste, and we can even say they entered the bloatware category, but that doesn't mean the "good" clients have disappeared. Personally, I believe qBitTorrent is one of the best out there, and I haven't found reasons to replace it. Now, if you prefer something even lighter and more compact, with no extra features, easy to use, and with the possibility of taking it everywhere, then you should take a look at PicoTorrent.
PicoTorrent: A Lightweight and Simple BitTorrent Client
Download the zip, unzip, and run. PicoTorrent doesn't require much more than that. Its interface is divided into a download list and four inner tabs that include general information, the file list, peers, and trackers. If you want to add your own trackers, it's enough with a right-click on a blank section and choosing "Add tracker".
PicoTorrent's preferences have a "General" section where you can change the language (Spanish appears in the list) and configure its startup with Windows, "Downloads" to indicate paths and set speed limits, "Labels" that help organize torrents, "Connection" to edit the port, enable encryption and features like DHT or PeX, "Proxy" in case you need to use one, and "Advanced", with eleven additional parameters.
PicoTorrent is available in 32 or 64-bit editions, and if you prefer a traditional installer, you can also download it from the official page. The only technical dependency is the 2019 edition of the Visual C++ Redistributable for the portable edition, but it should already be installed on most computers. Even though PicoTorrent has a reduced feature list compared to other clients, I think its simplicity makes it very interesting, especially if the plan is to run it on a low-resource computer.
