Google Pixel 11 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro take different approaches to turning video into still photos: Magic Capture selects frames automatically, while Apple Photos lets you choose the frame to save. The Pixel feature accepts clips up to 2 minutes and returns five photos after cloud processing; the iPhone saves the frame currently on screen.
Two ways to pull a photo from video
Magic Capture is a separate mode in the Pixel camera app. It analyzes a recorded clip and selects stills for you. On iPhone, open a video in Apple Photos, move to the moment you want, then choose Save Video Frame as Photo from the three-dot menu.

Magic Capture picks candidate frames for you
Magic Capture is reported to handle video clips up to 2 minutes long. One photo appears initially; after cloud processing, the total becomes five. In the reported examples, both a 30-second clip and a two-minute clip produced five photos.
The trade-off is control: Magic Capture chooses the moments, so you do not select the frames it returns. That can suit a fleeting moment when you want several candidate stills without scrubbing through the video yourself.
iPhone puts frame choice in your hands
On iPhone 18 Pro, open the clip in Apple Photos, move to the frame you want and tap Save Video Frame as Photo in the three-dot menu. The saved photo corresponds to the frame shown on screen, so you choose the moment rather than asking an automatic mode to pick it.
The hands-on account found precise scrubbing on the phone fiddly. Landscape orientation made it easier, while using an iPad with Apple Pencil offered more control. The feature was also reported to work in iPadOS 27; the iPhone workflow was described for iOS 27.
Convenience versus control
Choose Magic Capture when you want the phone to select several candidate photos from a fast-moving moment. Choose Apple Photos when you already have a video and want to pick a particular frame yourself. The difference is who makes the selection: the Pixel automates it, while the iPhone leaves the choice to you.
