Google keeps promoting innovative projects, and this time it presents a new experiment: its name is PixelSynth, and it's a web synthesizer that lets you upload your photos to create melodies.
PixelSynth is inspired by the ANS synthesizer created by Evgeny Murzin in 1937 and uses JavaScript, WebAudio, and Canvas technologies so you can upload your photos or choose from a library of preselected images to create your own melody. Simply head to the PixelSynth website, upload a photo (or use one of the library images), and start experimenting.
You have three panels: image, sound, and drawing. Each one has its own options when creating a melody with the background image. The options range from modifying brightness and contrast, which alter both the image and the melody, as well as dropdown menus that let you adjust the scale, speed, note, and starting octave. You can also draw on these images and alter the melody as it plays.
Don't expect to create a masterpiece, as the resources are very limited, with melodies that are ideal for creating a good horror backdrop. PixelSynth is the ideal synthesizer to start experimenting with its various options and pass the time creating images with eerie background melodies.
