Sometimes it's annoying to jump from one digital distribution platform to another just to play a game. To save that hassle and wasted time, now you have Playnite, a program that lets you organize the games you have downloaded from Steam, GOG, Origin, and Uplay in one place.
Online game service platforms have revolutionized the way people buy new games. We no longer have to stand in long lines outside the nearest game store on the day a new game launches, as people used to do about a decade ago. Now you can order or pre-order games online using delivery systems like Uplay, Steam, GOG and Origin. But now users have another problem: they have to install so many of these clients on their computer just to play games purchased across different digital game distribution platforms.
One library for all your game platforms
Any PC gamer typically has the four popular clients installed: GOG, Steam, Uplay, and Origin. But now you have Playnite, a program that lets you organize your Steam, GOG, Origin, and Uplay games in one place. Playnite is an open-source program that works as a library manager to enjoy a game installed on Windows from one location instead of switching from one client software to another. It is compatible with the four popular clients, including support for emulators, and can automatically detect both already installed and newly installed games.
First-run setup
When you first launch it, you enter an assistant mode that walks you through several steps to configure the software. You can select all the libraries from which you want to import games. By default, all libraries (Steam, GOG, Uplay, and Origin) are selected. But if you haven't installed any of these clients, it's better to leave it as is. You may need to further specify the location of the various libraries and how they should be updated in the future. After that, it will search for and automatically import all games from the selected libraries. Playnite is available for Windows both as a setup installer and as a portable program.
