While the phenomenon of the moment continues to be one of the most downloaded games in the App Store and Google Play, a developer studio decided to make its own version of Pokémon GO for Microsoft Hololens, and we're drooling over how awesome it looks.
There is no doubt that Pokémon GO is the phenomenon of the moment. Just step outside to find crowds of young people with their phones in hand, going from one place to another, searching for Pokémon in squares, shops, and anywhere you can imagine. In fact, just days after its launch, we've already seen several curiosities, permission and privilege issues, and even we taught you how to play the game on your PC. It seems unbelievable, but the app has already surpassed Candy Crush as the most played mobile game in the United States, and iPhone users are spending more time playing Pokémon GO than using the social networks Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat.
While the game continues to be one of the most downloaded titles in the App Store and Google Play, a developer studio based in Amsterdam created its own demo of Pokémon GO for Microsoft Hololens. The studio responsible is Capitola VR, a division of Capitola Digital that is absolutely obsessed with virtual reality. And given the immense popularity of Pokémon GO, it was logical to think that Capitola VR would decide to make its own version for the Microsoft Hololens augmented reality glasses. As in the mobile version, Pokémon characters appear, but instead of detecting them on a GPS map, here they are generated from the environment you are in.
"We were really surprised at how easy it is to set up an application for this device and create and optimize the mechanics and interaction," says David Robustelli, leader of Capitola VR. The video shows that with just a few finger movements you can throw the Pokéball and catch the Pokémon that appear in front of the person wearing the glasses, demonstrating the immersive experience of the game.
But don't get too excited, because for now Capitola VR has no intentions of working with Niantic (the developer studio of Pokémon GO) to make a complete adaptation to Hololens. At least, you know how the game will look when it is adapted.
