Superhot was one of the best games of 2016, without a doubt. The idea that time only advances when we move clicked perfectly, and it served as a breath of fresh air for a genre many consider exhausted. Its creators organized a competition in which anyone can participate with images, videos, mods, and games made in the Superhot style. One of the entries generating the most buzz is Portalhot, and its goal is to transfer Superhot's essence to the unforgettable Portal 2.

Portalhot: Superhot + Portal in an Essential Mod
Portalhot

We've asked ourselves endlessly how well the portal gun would work in a combat situation. Creating holes so turrets lose their balance is a fundamental action, but the question actually points to a "certain theoretical physicist" fighting a "certain alien invasion army". Unfortunately, all we have left is to keep waiting, unless... we're willing to incorporate a couple of mods. Portal and its sequel prioritize intelligence over action, but if its levels suddenly absorbed the mechanics of another excellent game like Superhot... what would be left?

Portalhot: The Mod

The result is Portalhot, a new mod created by user WhyNott, who participates in the #MAKEITSUPERHOT competition organized by Superhot's creators. WhyNott is also publishing an online development diary that helps us understand some of the technical aspects involved in the mod. If we watch the video carefully, we can see that there are still several details to correct. Personally, I think the turret bullets are too fast in "bullet time", and they should increase damage, forcing the player to think more carefully about every move.

The Competition and Prizes

Still, it's a work in progress, and the final version will be published in February. Does Portalhot have what it takes to win? Honestly, I don't know, but one thing must be recognized: the prizes are extraordinary. All participants receive a free copy of Superhot; however, first place in the "Games, Mods & Addons" category wins five thousand dollars in cash, an Oculus Rift, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, an Intel Core i7 processor, keyboard, mouse, and trophy. Added to this is an Xbox One for the winner of the "Arts & Crafts" category. Do you think you can beat Portalhot? You still have time!
