A racing game fan put on a helmet and climbed aboard a Formula Gulf 1000 at the Dubai circuit. The goal? To compare both the track and the vehicle with their virtual counterparts in Project CARS. The result? Read on to find out.
ADRIANF1esp is a YouTube user and racing game enthusiast. On his YouTube channel, you can find a wide variety of videos showcasing gameplay from several titles in the genre, but with an interesting twist: he compares each game with real-life circuits and vehicles. Driving the same vehicle and tackling the same track as his in-game counterpart, he records the lap to compare every detail with its virtual equivalent.

The first thing that stands out is the lighting: while the real track appears much more illuminated, the Project CARS version looks significantly darker. The lighting effects and shadows, in particular, don't look like what you'd expect from a racing simulator. Of course, it's worth noting that this isn't the final version of the game, but a development build known as Build 896.
Although the game doesn't look as polished as many hoped, it still has two months until launch to iron out the details and compete with other greats in the genre, like the magnificent Gran Turismo. Will it succeed? For now, we'll have to wait. Project CARS is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios and will be available on Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting March 20, 2015 in Spanish territory.
