The saga of Gordon Freeman may never get the ending it deserves, but that does not stop enthusiasts from going back to the original games to create new content for them. We all remember the work done in Black Mesa, but the situation with the Xen levels has become frustrating, and we will have to keep waiting. Meanwhile, we came across Project Lambda, a remake focused on the first episode of Half-Life, reproduced entirely in Unreal Engine 4.

They say hope is the last thing to lose, and in the case of the Half-Life saga... well, we have seen everything. Jokes, theories, conspiracies, fake art — the list goes on. Marc Laidlaw's famous "fanfic" left us heartbroken and with millions of questions. The official answer? A card game, which by the way has not even been released yet. That void leads us to the fans, disappointed and defiant, but at the same time creative and passionate. Project Borealis is advancing at a good pace, and its official website is full of news. Black Mesa is still struggling to reach Xen and finish its remake, maybe this year if we are a little lucky. And there is also Project Lambda, 'smaller', but no less interesting for that.

The First Episode, Recreated from Scratch

The goal of Project Lambda is to return to the beginning, to the chaotic Black Mesa facility, with the flexibility of Unreal Engine 4. The general style is different, and the untrained eye will probably have trouble associating it with Half-Life; however, the details are there. Of course, Unreal Engine 4 is not perfect (its growing pains were evident with PUBG), and not all fans seem to agree with seeing some of its graphical features applied to the Half-Life universe (too much bloom?), but personally I believe they have done an excellent job so far.

Release Plans and a Simple Question

The developers of Project Lambda have said that they will release the first episode (and only the first episode) as soon as it is finished, but the rest will depend on how big the demand is. That said, what do you think? Half-Life with Unreal Engine, yes or no?
