Punch-Out!! is widely regarded as one of the hardest video games of all time, largely thanks to its brutal final boss. Yet speedrunner mPap didn’t just beat it end-to-end—he did it blindfolded, setting a new blindfolded Punch-Out!! record.
There are skilled players, and then there are those so good they can play blindfolded—literally. That’s exactly what speedrunner mPap did, finishing Punch-Out!! on YouTube with his eyes covered and claiming a new record. Developed and released by Nintendo in 1987 for the NES, Punch-Out!! (also known as Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!) quickly became the go-to boxing game for many players. This time, mPap managed to complete it in 20 minutes and 36 seconds, setting a super blindfolded Punch-Out!! record. His initial goal was simply to reach the final bout against Tyson, but he blew past his own expectations, as you can witness below:
This isn’t the first time someone has attempted to beat this game blindfolded. At Awesome Games Done Quick 2014, user Sinister1 gave it a shot and reached the fight against Mike Tyson but couldn’t take him down. At the time, given the near-instant reflexes required, defeating him was considered impossible. And it’s no wonder Punch-Out!! earned a reputation as an incredibly tough game to finish, especially that final bout against Mike and his lightning-fast punches. But mPap not only completed it from start to finish, he did so without seeing a thing. To pull off this challenge, he prepared thoroughly and, relying on the game’s audio cues, was able to attack, dodge, and counterattack in time to defeat his opponents. Without a doubt, it’s an epic achievement worth watching.
