Editorial report
Purism Librem 5 technical sheet
The Purism Librem 5 suits people looking for a phone without Google Services who are willing to carry a heavy, thick device. At 263 g and 15.5 mm thick, it is among the heaviest and thickest phones of its time, a clear trade-off for anyone who wants a more manageable body. Its 5.7-inch IPS LCD has a compact size, but peak brightness of 450 nits is lower than that of most phones launched around the same time.
The quad-core NXP i.MX 8M is paired with 3 GB of RAM, less than most phones of its time, and 32 GB of storage, among the lowest capacities of the period. Storage is expandable. Both the front and rear cameras have 13 MP; the rear camera's resolution is also lower than that of most phones launched around the same time. Both record video at 1080p and 30 fps, while the rear camera includes continuous autofocus and HDR.
The 4,500 mAh battery is removable and supports 18 W charging. Connectivity includes 4G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS and Galileo, as well as USB Type-C, FM radio, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Google Services are absent. Its overall NeoScore is 3.3: a niche option for people seeking a phone without Google Services who can accept its limits in weight, display, memory, and camera resolution.
