The OASIS is a virtual reality universe where people go to escape their desolation. When the creator of OASIS dies, he leaves his inheritance to the person who finds a treasure he has hidden in the virtual world. The game begins for Wade Watts with the new trailer for Ready Player One.
The story of Ready Player One takes place in 2045, when much of Earth's population centers have become slums due to overpopulation, pollution, corruption, and climate change. To escape their desolation, people immerse themselves in the OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation), a virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday. When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person who finds a digital object he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS. This triggers a worldwide contest.
The protagonist of Ready Player One is Wade Owen Watts, a teenager from Oklahoma City who decides to join the contest. While Wade works with several friends in the OASIS to discover the treasure, the corporate giant Innovative Online Industries employs many players to try to find the treasure first and take control of Halliday's creation for themselves. Based on the science fiction novel Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, this action-adventure film will immerse you in a realistic and dizzying treasure hunt through a fantastic universe of mystery, discovery, and danger.
In the Ready Player One trailer you can spot several geek culture references, such as the presence of the DeLorean (Back to the Future), King Kong, Tracer (Overwatch), the Iron Giant, and Gundam, among many others (see if you can find them all). The film stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, T. J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance, among others. Produced by Warner Bros., Steven Spielberg (The BFG) directed the film from a script by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline. Ready Player One will be released in 2D, 3D, Real 3D, and IMAX theaters on March 30, 2018.
