9to5Google reported that its journalist enabled Android Linux Terminal on a Redmagic 12 Pro and ran commands to check compatibility. The outlet described the phone as the first Snapdragon-based Android phone to support the feature. Its report, published November 4, 2026, concerns this one device.

What the Terminal settings allow

Advanced settings and a memory-size dialog next to a gray workspace.

For the tested Redmagic 12 Pro, 9to5Google reported a default Terminal memory allocation of 1 GB, adjustable up to 10.6 GB. The available disk allocation was 132 GB and locked. The report also describes advanced settings for display resolution and a Keep Awake option.

The settings interface pairs memory controls with a separate workspace:

GUI support did not mean GIMP installed

9to5Google described the Terminal as supporting graphical user interfaces (GUIs), which let apps display windows and visual controls. But the journalist’s attempt to install GIMP with the standard command returned repeated 404 errors. That attempt did not install GIMP, and the report describes no successful launch.

What the Snapdragon test covers

9to5Google’s “first Snapdragon-based Android phone” description refers to its report of the Redmagic 12 Pro test. The finding is specific to that phone, rather than a compatibility result for Snapdragon devices generally.

For platform context, the outlet said Android 16 introduced Terminal on Pixel phones and that Samsung added support for Exynos-powered Galaxy S26 models in One UI 8.5.
