Reports published Oct. 14, 2026, said OpenAI had placed its compute and infrastructure operations under Uday Ruddarraju. The Next Web, citing Bloomberg, and NDTV Profit reported the change.
The remit is broader than his previous title
Ruddarraju became OpenAI’s CTO of Compute in July 2026, after joining the company in July 2025, according to The Next Web. The reported remit brings compute and infrastructure operations together under him. His CTO of Compute title is specific to that area of OpenAI’s work.
Before joining OpenAI, Ruddarraju led infrastructure engineering at xAI and worked on the Grok 3 training run across 100,000 GPUs, The Next Web reported.
Sachin Katti’s expected transition
Reports published Oct. 14 said Sachin Katti was expected to transition out of his infrastructure role within the coming weeks and remain an adviser. They also said leaders who reported to Katti would keep their positions. The Next Web and NDTV Profit described a change in Katti’s role at OpenAI.
GPT-Infra is reported to move to Richard Ho
The same reports said GPT-Infra work would move under Richard Ho, OpenAI’s chip chief. GPT-Infra uses OpenAI models for tasks that include semiconductor and infrastructure work, according to The Next Web and NDTV Profit.
How Ruddarraju describes the compute strategy
In a LinkedIn post, Ruddarraju described bringing compute’s commercial strategy into the engineering organization he leads as CTO of Compute. He also described coordinating work across providers, OpenAI’s own chips, and data-center builds with partners.
