Recently we shared the advantages of FileMancer as a file distribution hub for your mobile devices, but a question remained: what happens when we want to move a file from your phone to your PC? Or from the phone to another phone? Technically nothing prevents us from using AirDroid or a cloud storage service, but Resilio Sync does this differently: it lets you create your own personal and private cloud, without going out to the Web, sharing links with folders and files across your devices.

You can email files to yourself. You can create a Dropbox account and sync all your files. Or you can follow the classic route, using micro SD cards with adapters to read their content. If none of that seems particularly comfortable, then maybe you should create a personal cloud that lets you move data in different ways, and even transfer files from Android to your PC. The app to achieve this is Resilio Sync.

Create folders, sync the content, and set permissions for each link

The operation of Resilio Sync depends on its clients, meaning it must be installed on each device intended to be part of the cloud. Once you've done that, open Resilio Sync on your smartphone, create a folder, and add all the files you want to sync. The folder can have its privileges limited to read-only, or read and write if you so desire.

The next step is to copy the link generated by Resilio Sync to the other clients. How do you do this? Via email, messaging, QR code, or other platforms. Personally, I sent the link by email to my account. A simple click enabled the Resilio client on my PC to configure and sync all the files from the smartphone. Within seconds, the files were transferred and ready to use.

If you don't want to create an entire folder, don't worry: Resilio Sync can generate links for individual files. This is especially useful in combination with the QR code for transfers between mobile devices. It doesn't matter if it's a photograph or a PDF document, Resilio Sync will send this data without problems or size restrictions. The best part? Your files never go to the Web, not even during the transfer process. Your own local network is enough for two or more devices to connect via QR and access shared files immediately.

Besides limiting permissions for reading and writing, Resilio Sync includes expiration dates for shared links. The standard value is three days, and we can reduce its validity to 24 hours. Resilio Sync is free for private and personal use. Premium versions include better permission management and selective sync, although the free build should be sufficient for an Android phone and a PC. If you detect connection issues, remember that this behaves like a P2P network, and might need opening a port on your router, but in general it's transparent and works very well.
