If you're new to playing guitar and need help learning to play songs, you surely know Riffstation Pro. This application scans MP3 audio files and shows you the guitar chords used, with finger placement guides. It can even specify the capo placement or switch between open and power chords. It's not perfect (the app calculates chords in a few seconds with supposedly 80% accuracy), but it's an excellent way to start learning to play any song with the guitar.

The app can also split songs into smaller fragments, called riffs, and play them in slow-motion loops, allowing you to discover exactly how to play the chords in some complicated parts.
Riffstation Pro cost $34.99 but is now free because the app will no longer be available on the web or mobile devices. For now, Fender is working with record labels on a new paid Riffstation service that will be available soon.
