Model railroading demands a huge amount of time, money, and dedication, but there is something deeply relaxing and enjoyable about it. Needless to say, technology has multiplied its potential, giving rise to very complex setups and programs like Rocrail, which takes care of every last detail. Rocrail can fully automate trains or enable a mixed operation mode, and it is compatible with alternative platforms, including Android and Raspberry Pi.

If I tried to enter the world of scale model trains, I honestly wouldn't know where to begin. I imagine the first step is to absorb a good amount of information about general practices and beginner purchases, but I'm afraid it's not an option for me at the moment.

Now, what if it were an option for you? What kind of train would you try to build? What would its route look like? Many questions, and even more possibilities when we consider that there are programs capable of controlling each train and its accessories completely. One of the most relevant is Rocrail.

The interface has support for the Spanish language

Now, when I say "accessories" we should not think only of things like barriers. The official Rocrail page mentions systems in the cars, ambient lights, climate, and timetable simulation. Rocrail enables manual control of the trains, an automatic mode, and a combination of both.

Another striking aspect of Rocrail is its support for external controls, whether commercial or DIY. Rocrail is compatible with Windows, Linux, Mac OS, Raspberry Pi, and Android. Its Rocweb interface allows access through a web browser, and any technical question can be resolved either on its wiki or on the official forum.

That said, Rocrail's learning curve offers no mercy at all. Its step-by-step tutorial is gigantic, and unfortunately it is not available in Spanish. Even so, I believe that model train lovers (big and/or small) will cross paths with Rocrail sooner or later, and it's not a bad idea to start absorbing its functions.
